"NO COURT CAN STOP PDP FROM CHANGING ANY STATE EXCO" - Edwin Clark

The leader of the South South geopolitical zone and a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Edwin Clark has said that nobody can stop the party from making any changes in any state chapter of the party where it deems fit to do so. Chief Clark said this during an interactive session with newsmen in Abuja over the weekend on the recent court order obtained by one Chukwuemeka Aaron, a crony of the Junior Minister for State, Nyeso Wike. Aaron had gone to court asking it to order INEC to recognise the state exco led by Felix Obuah. The Court presided over by Justice Chukwu had granted Aaron's prayers which also include an order restraining the National office of the party from dissolving the exco until the expiration of its four-year tenure. Another order made by the court which also contradicts the constitution of the party is that the party should not accept any list of candidates for election except from the Obuah-led exco. But Chief Clark who revealed how he has fought for the good of the people of the zone as he is still doing in the on-going National Conference, said that it was wrong for anybody to seek to contravene the laws of the PDP by going to court to obtain a suspicious court order. The one time Minister of Information known to be vocal on National issues particularly the Niger Delta took a swipe at those whom he said want to hold the President to ransom for the 2015 election. He said, "they want to hold the President to ransom because of their selfish interest but we will never allow that. Nobody can stop the party from making changes necessary to unite our members to ensure total victory at the polls". Meanwhile, there has been a disquiet in the Rivers PDP over plots to stop other aspirants from contesting the primary elections. The activities of the Grass root Development Initiative, GDI, in the PDP has pitched other intending aspirants against the Minister who is the mastermind and financier of GDI. Many stalwarts of the PDP have been either suspended or expelled for daring to challenge the GDI members who have hijacked the Party structure for the purpose of one aspirant out of the whole lot. The PDP in the state has been factionalised and that has further dwindled the chances of the opposition to wrest power from the clutches of Gov. Amaechi and his party, the All Progressive Congress, APC. Meanwhile, there are indications that the ruling party, PDP, may disregard the Court Order obtained by Wike. The Party, according to Hon. Lolo Ibieneye cannot afford to risk INEC's sledge hammer since the state exco currently is not properly constituted. "It is a 2-man Exco and that falls short of the requirements of the law", he said.
